We bring you an article about pressure level gauges. An affordable and functional solution. What is their accuracy? Where are they suitable?
This is the simplest and cheapest way to measure the height of a liquid column. They operate on the principle of measuring the pressure of the liquid, which is proportional to the height of the level at a known density of the fluid.
Principle of pressure level gauges
In principle, it is a stainless steel cylinder with a pressure sensor inside, suspended on a cable to the bottom of the tank. Inside the cable, there are power and communication wires as well as a tube maintaining atmospheric pressure inside the sensor. The deflection of the membrane stretched between the internal environment of the sensor and the measured medium is then proportional to the height of the liquid column.
This type of level gauge has many limitations, primarily each probe must be set for a specific fuel density, and also the measurement accuracy is relatively low. In tests conducted in our laser chamber, where we perform calibration and adjustments, we achieve an accuracy of approximately 5 mm at a measuring height of 2 m. Suitable for non-demanding applications
On the other hand, for applications that do not require exceptional accuracy, it has significant advantages, especially in terms of simplicity of installation and low cost. Compared to highly precise level gauges, the price can be as low as one-third.
Their use is therefore suitable, for example, for measuring in AdBlue tanks, windshield washer fluid, or in small mobile fuel tanks.

The power supply and evaluation unit MU 3 and the display software are our own solution. We have already installed several hundred installations using pressure probes, primarily for plastic tanks containing AdBlue fluid.
